Rust Spotted in New Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 Map

Rust Spotted in New Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2’s multiplayer is inheriting a huge legacy of locations, fan-favorite maps, and namesakes, with many hoping that several classic maps are revised in some way. It’s exciting for fans, for example, that Warzone 2 seemingly features Terminal, Quarry, and High Rise on its new map. But on the same level with those, if not perhaps more popular, is Rust.

Many Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 players have fond memories of the first Rust, with it being the “1v1 me” map that many enjoyed as a competitive proving ground. Rust first appeared in the original MW2, as it was derived from the Endgame mission, but it has also appeared in Call of Duty: Modern Warfare (2019) and Call of Duty: Mobile. Modern Warfare (2019) added it as part of season two and Mobile added it as part of season six Rust Spotted in New Call of Duty, and fans hope to see it in the new Modern Warfare 2. In fact, they can already “see” it.

Rust became an instant favorite when the original Modern Warfare 2 was released in 2009, serving as one of the more frantic smaller maps in that game’s multiplayer mode, as well as the backdrop for the dramatic conclusion of the single-player campaign.

It remains to be seen if this means that Rust will make its way into the 6v6 playlists as a standalone map in the future. Classic CoD arenas are set to come in Season 1 and beyond Dive and Slide, and there’s no doubt that Rust would be a popular choice.

As pointed out by Redditor nonvizo, Rust can be spotted via the Santa Sena 32v32 Ground War map. Many point out how Rust doesn’t seem as sandy and rusty as the original take on the map, but it’s definitely likely those elements come if Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 adds Rust as an independent map. Several fans seem to believe that it will come to the game as a 6v6 map Dead Silence, eventually.

Az Mazrah arena

It looks, admittedly, less rusty than before, but tucked away in the background, it seems to hint that Rust might be making an appearance, alongside all the new Modern Warfare 2 killstreaks, as a potential 6v6 map later down the line.

Other maps from the 2009 Modern Warfare 2 seem to be making cameo appearances in the gigantic Az Mazrah arena in the upcoming Warzone 2, with POIs like airport, quarry, and Sa’id City seemingly hinting at Terminal, Quarry, and High Rise respectively. With this potentially sneak appearance in Taraq, it’s possible that Rust might get added as a 6v6 later in Modern Warfare 2 as well. It’s not confirmed, but we have to admit, it certainly looks like Rust — with all those memories of late 2009 nights, trying and failing to get a 360 no scope with the Intervention, all we can do is hope.

Highrise and Favela

Rust was one of the most popular maps in Modern Warfare 2, and it wasn’t without a reason. Thanks to its small area with many unique angles and a tall, accessible tower in the center, it was many players’ favorite, especially for those who enjoyed close-quarter combat and playing with the Intervention—the most popular sniper weapon in the game.

While the developers haven’t mentioned the return or Rust, there’s a possibility players could see it added as a six-vs-six map sometime in the future.

There have been hints that other fan-favorite CoD maps, like Highrise and Favela Rust Spotted in New Call of Duty, might be points of interest in the upcoming Warzone 2. There’s definitely a possibility that the devs are indeed toying with the idea of bringing back a few old maps one way or another. But we’ll have to wait and see how that turns out.

Nobody Stopped Rush

However, it looks significantly less rusty, so maybe Activision finally got around to cleaning it up in time for its next release. Commenters think this map will return for 6v6 modes, given its smaller size, but it’s not the only map on the tips of players’ tongues. Earlier this year, in September, Terminal and Highrise were rumoured to be making their own returns, with theories that Modern Warfare 2 will be pulling all the old maps back from its original namesake.

We’ve already seen trickles of this in Warzone 2 with points of interest like the airport and Sai’id City which draw from Terminal and High Rise. Others have even visited the Rust map in Modern Warfare 2 to record some clearer clips, climbing their way to the top of the chute just as we did all those years ago. Or three years ago Rust Spotted in New Call of Duty, if you played the Modern Warfare (2019) version.

If you drop into Taraq on Ground War and head to the B flag, you can jump right onto what is clearly the central part of Rust. Unlike the original map, however, there’s no close-quarters combat as the exterior walls have been removed. It’s more like the central tower and the ramps leading up to and off of it are there Rust Spotted in New Call of Duty, but all of the claustrophobic ground areas around it are gone.
